AT THE age of 24 Abbey Clancy seems to have it all. As a model, TV personality and the fiancée of England football ace Peter Crouch, the Liverpool-born beauty is the envy of many. However, she refuses to be pigeonholed as just another footballer’s girlfriend and is eager to carve an independent path.
The couple met in 2006 while Peter was playing for Liverpool and Abbey instantly distanced herself from the WAG tag. “I try not to do anything related to him,” she says. “He does his work and I do mine.”
Earlier this year, a film crew followed Abbey and her mum Karen, 50, on a nine-day trek across the Indian desert with a family of gypsy dancers for a programme called The Parent Trip. They travelled by camel, sleeping on the ground, living on curry cooked on a dung fire and performing with the dancers. It was quite a stretch from Abbey’s glamorous life. “I loved every minute,” she says. “We were totally out of our comfort zone.”
As a child Abbey dreamed of becoming a model, a singer or an actress. She did well at school. “I loved history, English and science and never got less than a B grade,” she says. She proved to the nation she was a beauty with brains by winning the Chris Moyles’ Quiz Night on Channel 4 last year. However her fiancé needed a little more convincing.
Abbey attended the Glamour Women of The Year Awards last night, images are up in the gallery, hopefully more will be added soon!
