SOCCERLENS: ABBEY, ANY WEDDING PLANS FOR YOU & PETER CROUCH ON THE HORIZON?
ABBEY: Er no. [Laughs]
SL: DO YOU WANT TO GET MARRIED?
ABBEY: Yeah one day yeah. I’m just so happy with my life at the minute – touch wood everything is like perfect. I’m enjoying my work and he’s
enjoying his work and we’re happy together.
SL: SO IF IT’S NOT BROKEN DON’T TRY AND FIX IT?
ABBEY: Exactly yeah.
SL: WAGS ARE SEEN AS MASSIVE SHOPAHOLICS, ARE YOU?
ABBEY: I think I have phases of it to be honest. Like, I do get bored easily but once I start shopping I absolutely love it.
SL: DO YOU HAVE MUCH TIME TO SHOP?
ABBEY: Not lately because I’ve just been doing the house up and I’ve been busy working. I haven’t been clothes shopping for a few months actually good God!
SL: SO PETER MUST BE PLEASED THAT YOU’RE SAVING HIM MONEY?
ABBEY: He is pleased that I’m saving him money. But then I’ll just spend the money that I’ve saved on like shoes or something which defeats the object a tiny bit but never mind. [laughs]
SL: DOES PETER LIKE GOING SHOPPING WITH YOU?
ABBEY: No. We fight every time we go shopping together. He walks behind me like a child and I just hate it. He just stands behind me and follows me instead of going like, ‘This is nice.’ And I’ll test him by picking up something that’s horrible and go, ‘Do you like this?’ and he’ll say ‘Yeah’ and I’ll be like, ‘See, you’re not paying attention.’
SL: MEN ARE RUBBISH AT SHOPPING, EH?
ABBEY: Yeah you feel like guilty for spending time in the shop. So I’ve decided not to go with him ever again and just go with my mum.
SL: SO PETER’S NOT A GOOD SOUNDING BOARD WHEN YOU’RE TRYING ON AN OUTFIT?
ABBEY: He’s good like that he’s always paying me compliments. I could literally put on a bin bag and he’d say, ‘God you’re so gorgeous in that.’ He’s just weird like that.
SL: BUT THAT’S NICE THOUGH?
ABBEY: Yeah but it’s best to bring your mum because she’ll go, ‘No that’s horrendous, get it off!’ It’s best to have the truth.
SL: YOU’RE IN SUCH LOVELY SHAPE – DO YOU GO TO THE GYM WITH PETER?
ABBEY: I do want to start the gym now because I don’t really go to the gym. We go on a lot of walks because there are a lot of gorgeous places by ours. Like we go round Virginia Water or wherever we’re walking. But I want to start the gym desperately just to keep fit. Pete took me on a jog and I was jogging for like six minutes and I thought I was literally having a heart attack. I couldn’t breathe. So I just want to go for myself to keep fit.
SL: I GUESS THAT WOULD BE NICE FOR HIM THAT YOU COULD KEEP HIM COMPANY AT THE GYM?
ABBEY: Yes but he does all his training at work so like that’s the last thing he wants to do really when he comes home. Although he took my little sister training with him the other day and it was so cute. She’s only 11 and the whole team went to the David Lloyd and he made her do the class with him and all the stretches. She was on the bikes with the whole Portsmouth squad.
SL: WAS SHE EXHAUSTED?
ABBEY: Yes but she loved it.
SL: DOES SHE LIKE PLAYING FOOTBALL?
ABBEY: No, she likes running. She does a lot of running and stuff. She’s really sporty but so girly as well.
SL: ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO THE SUMMER?
ABBEY: Can’t wait for the summer. I’ve got a gorgeous garden so I can’t wait to sit out there and have our brekkie outside and watch our little kittens play in the tree.
SL: HAVE YOU GOT ANY HOLIDAY PLANS?
ABBEY: No, we’ve been thinking about that lately actually, where we’re going to go, but we don’t know yet.
SL: TIME FOR SOME SUNSHINE?
ABBEY: Yeah definitely.
